The opportunity to get involved in Council's campaign to the State Government to highlight ten of our key issues within Hobsons Bay has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to add their voice!
Funding to support community and industry to reduce their carbon emissions to zero by 2030.
Climate change is expected to result in higher average temperatures, sea level rise, changes in rainfall patterns and changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme events such as heatwaves.
Ensuring the community, developers, industry and land managers are adequately resourced and supported to reduce their carbon emissions is key to delivering change.
Council has an important role in enabling, engaging and encouraging the local community to move to a low carbon future, however further support is required across all levels of government
What is required?
- Support residential solar power by providing subsidies up to 50 per cent of the cost of environmental upgrades, including solar installations and LED lighting, to both owners and renters that targets vulnerable community members and increases the value of feed in-tariffs.
- The development of a State Environmentally Sustainable Development Policy that establishes clear benchmarks to achieving zero net emissions buildings and infrastructure that is supported by appropriate reforms to the National Construction Code Building Regulations
- Free environmental assessments by Sustainability Victoria in collaboration to businesses to identify cost savings associated with environmental upgrades.
- The provision of financial and taxation incentives from the State Government that support businesses and industry to become carbon neutral to align with the Victorian Government’s policy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
