Epsom Street Affordable Housing

Hobsons Bay City Council, together with architects, engineers, acoustic consultants and urbans planners has developed design guidelines for affordable housing proposed next to Curlew Community Park, at 7-45 Epsom St, Laverton.

This survey seeks your feedback on the design guidelines. It will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

What are design guidelines? Design guidelines are a set of statements, usually consisting of mandatory and preferred rules, that are put in place to set out what is expected of architects when they are designing a building and what the final building should look like and how it should relate to its surrounding neighbours.

The guidelines have been developed for the proposed affordable housing at Epsom Street because Council recognises that high quality buildings and places support the social, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing of our communities and wants to see this for Laverton. Good urban design delivers places that are safe, welcoming, healthy, functional and enjoyable.

The guidelines aim to ensure:

  • Continued community enjoyment of Curlew Community Park
  • The development is visually attractive from the street and the park
  • Overshadowing is minimised
  • The development is safe, accessible to all ages and abilities, and affordable to people on very low to moderate incomes.
