What we know about the current aquatic facilities in Hobsons Bay

1 April 2019

The draft Aquatic Strategy was developed with input from the community in 2018 when you told us how you currently use the aquatic facilities in Hobsons Bay and what you would to see in the future. You can read what we heard from this consultation by click here or using the document library.

In order to meet the community's current aquatic needs, an Aquatic Strategy is needed that considers the current and future needs of residents, the upgrade and renewal needs of the existing facilities and a plan to provide aquatic facilities and services for our future population growth.

Bayfit Leisure Centre

Bayfit is performing as the major "district" aquatic centre in the region and has the largest population user catchment. It is seven times the size of the Laverton Swim and Fitness Centre.

Annual visits and memberships have been increasing each year over the last three years.

Laverton Swim Centre

This centre is performing as a "local" aquatic centre with a local user catchment and is located in a low visibility / passing traffic area. Annual visits show a marked increase in users over the past two years.

Williamstown Swimming and Lifesaving club - outdoor pool

This centre is only open to members of the club, which currently has over 1,000 members. A technical review into the condition of the outdoor pool found the pool to be in fair to poor condition. Remedial works were required to repair the leaks in the pool to extend the life of the pool shell.
