Issue: Storage of long vehicles in residential areas

Part 6, Clause 6.6

Current

Keeping heavy vehicles on residential property has been controlled by the existing local law for a long time, however there are no current regulations for keeping long vehicles on residential land.

Proposed

Expanding the existing clause to also include long vehicles. Owners/operators may apply for permits to keep these vehicles.

A heavy vehicle is any vehicle over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM)

A long vehicle is any vehicle that is 7.5 metres long or longer.

**Please note "long vehicles DO NOT include vessels, caravans or trailers**

Rationale

Long vehicles are becoming more common due to the increase in online shopping and goods deliveries.

These vehicles create the same issues as heavy vehicles, for example:

  • Creating noise
  • Blocking/obstructing other drivers, when entering or leaving the premises
  • Obstructing line of sight for other drivers and pedestrians.

They have now been included in this clause to address these issues.
