Community consultation occurred between 27 September and 28 October 2022, on the draft Play Space Strategy. Feedback will be included in the Strategy presented for Council adoption in 2023

  • The draft Play Space Strategy reviews and updates the 2013 Play Space Strategy to ensure priorities and development standards align with the recommendations in the Open Space Strategy and the 10-year Park Upgrade Program.

Below is a snapshot of the community engagement activities and promotions

What we heard - responses from the survey

  • Shade at existing play spaces

    57% stated the need for better shade at existing play spaces, either from tree canopy cover or shade sails.

  • Safety and accessibility

    • Installing more disabled parking at play spaces and better footpath accessibility for disabled persons.
    • Placing SJ Clements as a high priority to upgrade, with measures to reduce anti-social behaviour such as dumping and hooning.
    • Installing more seating and bins at Loft Reserve to meet current demand levels.
    • Installing a pathway at AB Shaw Reserve between the play space and Laverton creek pathway.
    • Upgrading and performing a minimum safety review at Cameron Reserve.


  • Improvements to existing spaces

    • Improving play spaces along the beach by upgrading existing playgrounds in Williamstown, and incorporating water play facilities.
    • Improving play spaces in Altona Meadows such as Skeleton Creek Playground, renewing play spaces from Bruce Comben Reserve to Tatman Reserve along the Creek.


  • Play spaces for younger children & all age ranges

    21% indicated a need for:

    • More play spaces suited for toddlers (children under 5 years old)
    • More imaginative play spaces in general
    • A need to address safety for younger children at existing play spaces
