  • About the project

In open space terms, Altona North has a low proportion of open space per person. J.J. Ginifer Reserve serves as an important open space not only for local residents but also workers within this urban pocket bounded by Millers and Blackshaws Roads.

  • Open Space Strategy and Playspace Strategy

Council's Open Space Strategy and Playspace Strategy (in development) has identified J.J. Ginifer Reserve as a ‘local’ reserve in hierarchy and highlighted the playspace as an opportunity for upgrade. A concept plan for improvements has been prepared and we are interested to get your feedback.

  • Proposed improvements

Proposed improvements include the following features

    • Removal of several play equipment structures (near end of like span)
    • Replacement with new and exciting equipment such as
      • Multi-aged feature play unit
      • Flying fox
      • More swings
      • Rotating climbing net
    • Resurfacing of the existing basketball and activity court
    • Enhanced garden bed landscaping and nature play areas
    • A new public gathering space with a shelter, picnic seating, drink fountain and bike hoops
    • Updated reserve signage

J.J. Ginifer Reserve has not been identified as a critical location for a new public toilet as it is considered as a ‘local’ reserve. For locations identified for new public toilet, please refer to Council’s Public Toilet Strategy (under development) - https://participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/toilets.

Council has set service standards based on different Open Space hierarchy types. This is to ensure that there is a balance between reserve provisions and ability for servicing and maintenance. As J.J. Ginifer Reserve is a ‘local’ reserve a BBQ at this location will not be supported.
