Help us name the new Centre of Excellence
As part of our Centres of Excellence Strategy, we are currently refurbishing Altona North Community Library to provide inspiring and empowering learning experiences alongside mainstream Council services. The theme of this Centre of Excellence is Video Games and Board Games, which will enable the community to explore, learn and connect through diverse game opportunities.

👾 About the project
What are the Centres of Excellence?
The Centres of Excellence are a network of six centres that aim to make services and learning opportunities more accessible to more people.
Hobsons Bay City Council has identified each library branch as a location for a Centre of Excellence. Each site will be assigned a unique theme where our community can deep dive into topics through curated programs, activities, specialist equipment and collections. You can find out more here.
The refurbishments of our new library space at Altona North will include:
- New flooring
- Acoustic treatments
- Installation of a Council+ video conferencing pod
- Kitchenette area
- New shelving
- Landscaping of the external courtyard
- A Video Games and Board Games Centre of Excellence
Altona North’s extensive book and magazine collection will continue to be available, and will be complemented by tabletop games, PC gaming and consoles. By introducing this Centre we are providing free access to the social, educational, emotional and physical benefits of playing games, in a safe and welcoming environment.
