Closing the loop
Community consultation on the proposed ‘No Parking Resident Permit Excepted’ restrictions for Thorpe Street, Basil Street and Woods Street has now closed.
Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, emailed us, or shared feedback during the consultation period.
The purpose of the consultation was to gather feedback and better understand current parking use, pressure points and the likely impacts of any changes, it was not an implementation plan. We have reviewed the feedback received to date, and most respondents do not support the proposal. As a result, Council will not proceed with the proposal at this stage.
We will continue to assess the feedback alongside other information about parking demand and access needs. Council is also planning to develop a Hobsons Bay wide Parking Management Strategy in 2026–27 and will seek community input as part of that work.
What are the proposed changes?
In response to high parking demand, Council is proposing to introduce full time ‘No Parking – Resident Permit Excepted’ restrictions on the below streets:
- The full length of Thorpe Street.
- The full length of Basil Street.
- On the north-side of Woods Street between Blenheim Road and Grieves Street and,
- On the south-side of Woods Street between Blenheim Road and 197 Woods Street
With the exception of multi-unit developments, residents are eligible for a Resident Parking Permit, including a Visitor Permit, which allows parking in 'No Parking' restricted streets. Please note, such permits are not issued to vehicles in excess of 4.5 tonnes gross weight or trucks, trailers, caravans or motorcycles.
These proposed parking restrictions are the same as those already in place on Blenheim Road between Woods Street and Rosshire Road.
How will my feedback inform the project?
Council will proceed with the parking restrictions
only if the majority of feedback received supports this
proposal. Please take the time to review the plan and submit your feedback by 27 March 2026.
