Vibrant Brooklyn Leadership Program
Vibrant Brooklyn Leadership Program
Expressions of interest are open to join a leadership program where you can utilise and develop your leadership skills, explore your strengths and build local connections.
The group will aim to;
- work alongside the Brooklyn Hall committee to attract and manage community/local-led initiatives, projects, activities and events at Brooklyn Community Hall, Brooklyn Reserve and surrounds
- activate the space and help build capacity and community frameworks into our community
- strengthen Brooklyn together by contributing to a sustainable leadership framework that is inclusive, accessible and meets the needs of our diverse community
Commencing on December 6, 2023 at 7pm, participants will meet fortnightly at Brooklyn Community Hall (with a break over summer). The group will be supported to turn ideas into projects and implement local activities together for the benefit of the broader community.
Please refer to the FAQ’s at the bottom of the page prior to submitting your EOI
FAQ
FAQ
- What will I get out of this program?
You will have the opportunity to explore your strengths, build local connections, develop your leadership skills and gain experience in community development. We are hoping for a broad demographic of participants with differing skills and experiences.
- Do I have to attend every session?
Sessions will be run fortnightly on Wednesday evenings and there will be some weekend projects that you can get involved in. There would be an expectation of approximately 80% attendance to get the most out of the program.
- Is there a fee?
This is a free program and although it is not an accredited course it will build leadership skills that you can utilise in all aspects of your life and involvement in future Brooklyn.
- Will I have to run any programs or events?
There will be opportunities to get involved in various projects and event planning but there is no expectation in running programs. You can be involved as much or as little as you want.
- Do I need to be a Brooklyn resident?
It is important that you live, work or play in Brooklyn. The EOI enables you to outline your connection to Brooklyn.
- Do I have to be an existing leader in Brooklyn?
No you don’t, you may be looking to develop leadership skills, be an emerging leader or have existing leadership skills that you want to build upon.
- What is the minimum age for participation?
18 years +
- I have already completed a leadership course, is there any value in doing this course?
Workplace leadership is a very different context to community development. You may find some cross-over between the two, but engaging in this program will assist the group to design and implement activities that will make a difference to the fabric of Brooklyn. Being part of this group may prove to be of great benefit to you and provide opportunities to share leadership skills or apply them in a different way.
- Is there any ongoing commitment after the program is completed?
There will be opportunities to remain involved in Brooklyn hall and the activities within the reserve at the completion of the course. You may like to join the community garden, help at an event or activity, engage members of the community and help them to join an activity, volunteer at the Hall or be part of a working group, but there is no obligation for ongoing commitment once the program is complete.
- Can I register with a friend?
Yes, each participant would need to be invested in Brooklyn, either live, work or play. Please ensure each person completes the EOI, and mention the connection as part of your EOI.
- If I can't do this course, can I still get involved later on?
Yes, there will be plenty of new opportunities. Registering through the ‘Stay Involved’ link on the EOI, or keep your eyes open for opportunities as they are advertised.
- Is there a break over summer/how many classes do I need to attend?
There will be a break over summer from mid December and resuming late January 2024, then recommence fortnightly until June 2024. There would be an expectation of approximately 80% attendance to get the most out of the program, and to support the whole group.
