Frank Gibson Reserve

Thank you to everyone who filled out a survey, attended our park drop-in session or contacted the project team directly to provide feedback for the upgrades of the Frank Gibson Reserve.

Those who contributed to the community consultation of Frank Gibson Reserve were extremely supportive of the park upgrade; additional play equipment and seating being a popular response. Click here for a summary of what we heard during the consultation period in November to December 2020.

What currently exists at this park?

Frank Gibson Reserve sits between Allen Street and Sumers Street in Laverton. It has some mature trees that create shaded areas, an existing cricket pitch and a large open space is in the centre, with two playgrounds on either side.

What’s included in this park upgrade?

A concept design for the upgrade of this park has been finalised based on what we heard from the community during the Better Places Laverton process and community feedback shared on the draft concept design in November and December 2020.

The play area closest to Allen Street will receive an upgraded play area with additional seating. The multi-play playground will be refurbished, and additional features will be added including an accessible whirl, rope climbing frame, caterpillar slide, bike parking, a drinking fountain, new toddler rockers, and a new swing set. There will also be garden beds and new seats under the trees.

The play area at the Sumer Street end will be relocated more centrally and will feature a basketball hoop and key, terraced timber seats (which can be climbed and played on) and a junior bike circuit. It will also include new garden beds and additional seats in the shade.

A new irrigation system will also be installed to maintain the open lawn area. Features in this space will include a small viewing mound, new junior soccer goals, a shaded path linking the two playgrounds as well as new trees for future shade. The existing cricket pitch will be retained.

The design incorporates activities for older children and teenagers making this park a future family destination that community members of all ages can enjoy.
