Project Summary

Improvement works to Alma Avenue Reserve including a new playground, community gathering space, new park furniture and landscaping is due to begin construction in late February 2024.

Broader precinct plans have also been prepared to include the Alma Avenue Shops and local streetscapes.

Funds for these initiatives are yet to be committed in Council’s capital Works Budgets but we are using this opportunity to consult with the local community and traders at the same time. Design concepts seek to improve overall function, safety, presentation, and amenity to uplift this precinct as a vibrant village for the community.

Background

Background

Alma Avenue Reserve is a small pocket park but forms an important part of the Alma Avenue Shopping Village. While currently there are minimal amenities within the reserve, Council is preparing to upgrade the park to increase its recreational value and strengthen its role in the broader shopping village precinct.

Council’s Better Places initiative identified that the Alma Avenue Reserve and adjoining shops have the potential to be upgraded to make them more attractive and inviting meeting places for locals.

By adding more greenery to the reserve and streets, providing places where people can grab a coffee and sit and relax with friends or watch their kids play in the park, or by improving the appearance of the shops and supporting local traders, this precinct could become a true destination and heart for the local community.

Scope of works

  • A draft concept plan has been developed and proposes a number of improvements to the Alma Avenue Reserve, Shopping Village and surrounding streetscapes.

Click here to view the plans.

  • The Alma Ave reserve will be significantly enhanced with the replacement of the playground, improved footpaths linkages, creation of a community gathering space, reserve landscaping and new park furniture.

  • While the immediate focus for improvements is at Alma Avenue Reserve for FY23-24, Council has prepared ideas for future improvements to the adjacent shopping village and streetscapes. Potential improvements will include an upgrade to the carpark, safer pedestrian connections, enhanced landscaping, improved outdoor dining opportunities, feature public artwork and traffic calm treatments to surrounding streets.

Consultation Information

  • What will my feedback do?

Your feedback will help shape the design and future of this important local village precinct.

  • Is there anything that my feedback will not shape?

There is limited influence on privately owned land (i.e. shops). Improvements on private property will require advocacy and support from Council.
